About The FearlessRiOT Top 40

Originally starting as a personal hobby back in 2008, the FearlessRiOT Top 20 Music Countdown was meant to be my own personal alternative to real-life music charts such as the Billboard Hot 100 or the American Top 40 Countdown. I began keeping track of the music I’d listen to over the course of a week and compiling them into a chart at the end of the week. I’ve done it every week since, save for a few years where I decided not to do it on the final week of the year before eventually changing that rule. In the early-2010’s, I got the idea to start posting the countdown online partly for archival purposes and partly to keep my followers up to date on what I’d been listening to and to encourage them to send their music suggestions my way. The songs that chart generally make it on through a combination of play in my personal music collection (iTunes, my phone, etc.) and outside influence such as radio airplay or music video viewing. An additional rule states that the countdown is primarily meant for songs that are either released as singles or have a music video for them, though I exercise my right to make exceptions once in awhile. Finally, no genre is left out; the countdown has seen its fair share of hip-hop, rock, pop, country, and R&B songs. Variety is welcome here as I like to keep my musical taste diverse.  This site is now the official home of what is now the FearlessRiOT Top 25 Music Countdown; enjoy, and I hope we have something in common music-wise!
