Despite being active as a solo act for a decade now, Kehlani has surprisingly little chart success on the FearlessRiOT Countdown. Their first charting appearance ever wsa “Nights Like These”, a collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign that had a six week chart run during the Top 25 Era in early-2019 and only got as high as #19. They would not chart again until landing two more collaborative chart entries in 2021: “At My Worst” with Pink Sweat$ which also peaked at #19 but spent a more notable 13 weeks on the chart, and “their biggest chart hit “Ur Best Friend” with now-chart favorite Kiana Ledé, which also spent 13 weeks on the chart and became Kehlani’s first Top 10 song, peaking at #6. As of this week, a #1 song no longer eludes the R&B star. In a year where they’re set to drop a new album and where they’re one of the most vocal artists using their platform in a valuable way to stand in solidarity with Palestine, they also land their very first chart-topper, and with a non-collaborative track at that in potential song-of-the-summer “After Hours”. Their move to #1 was enough to block the rebound of “The Albatross” by Taylor Swift from returning to the top as it lands at #2. This also means that “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter ends it’s run on top for the time being, falling to #3 just ahead of The Warning moving up to #4 with “Hell You Call A Dream” and Kiss Of Life also reaching a new peak of #5 with “Midas Touch”. Rounding out the Top 10 are “BOA” by Megan Thee Stallion at #6, “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar at #7, “Miss Me Too” by Griff at #8, “Rhythm & Blues” returning to the chart at #9 and becoming Ayra Starr’s third Top 10 hit, and “euphoria” by Kendrick Lamar at #10.
